The SHEPHERD AND DOG is widely renowned for its excellent food of outstanding quality.  Serving an extensive variety of MEAT, FISH AND POULTRY DISHES, far to numerous to list, a VEGETARIAN SELECTION and a recently added CHILDREN'S MENU.

For those wishing to dine at Shepherd and Dog we have seating for around seventy five people.

Twenty two of these places are in our restaurant (non-smoking) and are bookable.  In fact it is recommended that, if you wish to eat in the restaurant, you book in advance as it is very popular.

The remainder of the seating is divided between the two bar areas on a first come - first served basis.

Please be aware that Shepherd and Dog is an extremely popular venue and can be extremely busy at any time.  This is why we recommend booking in advance on 01206 272711.

When a deposit is required it must be paid at the time of booking.

 

Shepherd & Dog Menu

Many people write to us requesting a copy of our menu.  Unfortunately we haven’t got one.  We feel that to have a written menu would stifle the creative ability of our chefs, so in order to best utilise the fresh produce and ingredients available our menu is constantly changing.

The menu is displayed in the bar on individual boards that show what is available at that moment.  It includes 10 starters, 20 main courses (meat, fish and poultry), vegetarian dishes and a wide selection of homemade desserts.  We also have a children's menu.

It would be disappointing for you to see a menu, make your choice and then find that the dishes you desire are not actually available, and disappointing for us not to be able to serve you what you wish.

As an example, of the selection that may be on offer at any given time, the following is the menu that was available on Sunday, 10 August 2003.

Starters  

½ pint shell on prawns.

Homemade smooth chicken liver pate.

Spiced pork belly & noodle broth (hot & spicy).

Deep-fried brie with cranberry sauce.

Prawn cocktail.

Smoked mackerel with horseradish sauce.

Devilled blanch bait with garlic mayo and brown bread and butter.

Smoked chicken Caeser salad with parmesan and croutons.

Pan-fried portabella mushrooms on toast.

Homemade tomato soup.

Main courses  (All served with the choice of salad, peas, a selection of vegetables, and chips, wedges or new potatoes.)

Deep-fried whole-tail scampi.

Pan-fried sardine fillets with sun-dried tomato and garlic dressing.

Mediterranean prawns pan-fried in garlic butter.

Grilled halibut with anchovy and caper butter.

Deep-fried fillet of cod.

Cajun rubbed salmon with lime sour cream.

Whole rainbow trout roasted with almonds and tarragon.

Deep-fried fillet of plaice.

Grilled butter fish with lemon and oregano.

Whole grilled lemon sole.

Brace of Barnsley chops.

T-bone steak (approx. 20oz.)

Pan-fried strips of veal with marsala and mushroom sauce.

Pork fillet with creamy orange cider mushroom sauce.

Char-grilled chicken breast with tagliatelle and red pepper pesto.

Pan-fried fillet of lamb with tarragon cream sauce.

Gammon steak with pineapple (approx. 12oz.)

Sirloin steak (approx. 12oz or 8oz)

Rump steak (approx 16oz or 8oz)

Pair of pork chops with brandy and peppercorn sauce.

Homemade chicken curry.

Homemade Italian lasagne.

Stilton sauce

Vegetarian dishes

Cheesy chickpea enchilada.

Mushroom risotto.

Homemade tiramisu with crushed raspberries.
